From our service data
We analysed our last 12 months of wall oven repairs where a replacement part was needed. These are the ones that came up most often.
| Repair | 12 months | Parts | Labour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronic controls and relay boardsWon't heat, shuts off mid-bake, or throws an error code | ~175 | $140–$635 | $165–$225 |
| Sensors and thermostatsBakes hotter or cooler than the display says | ~100 | $15–$40 | $145–$210 |
Repair counts and parts prices come from our own completed jobs over the last 12 months, not from an industry estimate. Ranked by how often each repair needed a replacement part. Many service calls are resolved without one.
Both figures are typical. Individual jobs can run higher, and parts prices vary by model, supplier and availability. You get a written quote before any repair work begins.
Prices exclude the $129.95 diagnostic visit fee and taxes.
Use an oven thermometer to check for drift; more than 25°F off means it needs recalibration.
The high heat of self-clean cycles is a leading cause of control board and door latch failures.
Spills that bake on become permanent and can affect element and sensor performance over time.
Run a hand around the door while preheating; escaping heat means the seal needs replacing.
Don't block airflow at the back of the cavity with oversized pans or foil.
It's the most common cause of a locked or non-functional oven right before it's needed most.
FAQ
Most popular questions we get asked.
Wall ovens lean toward repair more than anything else we handle, and the reason is what is built around them. Replacing one means the appliance plus whatever cabinetry and electrical work the new unit needs, so the real cost of replacement is higher than the sticker. A new wall oven is $1,200 to $3,500 on its own. Parts for common repairs run $15 to $635 before labour and diagnosis. A typical wall oven lasts 15 to 20 years, and the same half-the-cost rule applies once you have counted the install work honestly. Ask your technician for a straight read during the visit.
Warmth through the cabinet is expected, particularly after a long bake or a self-clean cycle, because the oven sits flush against the wood. Too hot to keep your hand on is not expected. Neither is a finish that is discolouring or bubbling. Wood still warm well after the oven went off is the same signal. That points to door seals or insulation that have given up, and it is worth fixing for the cabinets as much as for the oven.
Rarely a big one. The two cavities are largely independent. Each has its own elements and sensor, and usually its own control circuit, so a fault on one side tends to stay on that side. Most often it is a failed element or temperature sensor in the cavity that has gone quiet, which is a contained repair. One side going does not put the other at risk. Wait for a diagnosis before you start thinking about the whole appliance.
Hinge springs have worn out or broken, which is common and cheap to fix. It is worth dealing with sooner rather than later because of the height. A wall oven door sits at chest level, right where your arms are when you are pulling a hot dish out, so a door that drops without warning can catch you or knock what you are holding. On a range the door is down near the floor and the same failure is mostly an annoyance. Get it done.
Depends on the model, so check your manual. Some wall ovens are built with a hold position partway open and some are meant to swing fully down every time. If yours used to hold and now sags past that point or drops the rest of the way on its own, that is the same worn hinge spring. If it never held in the first place, nothing is wrong with it.
