Expert Cooktop Repair
Our technicians have completed more than 4,700 cooktop repairs since 2020.
From our service data
We analysed our last 12 months of cooktop repairs where a replacement part was needed. These are the ones that came up most often.
| Repair | 12 months | Parts | Labour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Element switches and regulatorsAn element that won't heat, or one stuck on high regardless of the dial | ~70 | $80–$185 | $140–$190 |
Repair counts and parts prices come from our own completed jobs over the last 12 months, not from an industry estimate. Ranked by how often each repair needed a replacement part. Many service calls are resolved without one.
Both figures are typical. Individual jobs can run higher, and parts prices vary by model, supplier and availability. You get a written quote before any repair work begins.
Prices exclude the $129.95 diagnostic visit fee and taxes.
Food debris blocking gas ports is the most common cause of uneven or yellow flames.
Warped pans reduce contact and efficiency; induction models also need magnetic-base cookware to work at all.
Cleaning spills before they harden protects glass and electric surfaces from permanent damage.
Sliding cookware scratches glass and induction surfaces; always lift to reposition instead.
A healthy gas flame burns steady blue; yellow or flickering flames are worth addressing early.
Harsh scrubbing pads and chemical cleaners can scratch or dull induction and smooth-top surfaces permanently.
Smelling gas near your cooktop means leave the house and call your gas utility. Here is what to do, and what happens next.
Causes
Clicking with no flame usually points to a clogged port or ignition fault. Learn what to check before calling for service.

FAQ
Most popular questions we get asked.
Cracked glass changes the answer completely, so rule that out first. A cracked surface cannot be repaired at any age, and the entire glass assembly has to be replaced. Everything else follows the usual arithmetic. A cooktop lasts 10 to 15 years and a new one runs $550 to $3,000. Common parts are $80 to $185 before labour and diagnosis. A failed control board is the expensive exception, and worth getting priced before you decide. Once the repair passes half the cost of a comparable new cooktop on a unit past the middle of its life, replacement is the better call.
Induction only heats cookware with a magnetic base, so an aluminum or copper pan does nothing. Glass is the same. This is the most common induction complaint we get, and it is usually not a repair at all. Hold a fridge magnet against the bottom of the pan. If it does not grab firmly, there is your answer. A pan too small for the zone or sitting off-centre will not register either, and a warped base does the same. If the cookware is compatible and centred and the cooktop still won’t detect it, book a visit.
Often not. Each zone runs off its own components rather than one shared system, which is especially true on induction, so losing a single zone points to an isolated failure. A bad element or sensor is typical. Sometimes it is an individual control board. That is a contained repair. The exception is when error codes or burning smells come with it, or the zones that still work start behaving oddly. That points to a broader electrical or control problem and needs a closer look.
Expected, not a fault. Touch controls read your finger through the glass, so a film of grease or a wet dish towel lying near the panel reads as a finger and sets off the beeping. Clear the surface and wipe the glass properly dry. That is usually the end of it. If it carries on when the glass is clean and dry with nothing on it, the control board is worth checking.
The whole cooktop comes out of service, including the zones nowhere near the crack. That glass is sealing the wiring and electrical components underneath it, and a crack gives spills and grease a path down to live parts. Shock risk and fire risk, both real. Scratches and burn marks are a different story, cosmetic only, and you can keep cooking on those. An actual crack means no cooking until a technician has assessed it.
